The East-West Road is to be completed, packaged and delivered for use before the end of the year.
The Chairman of the Subsidy Reinvestment Empowerment Program (SURE-P) Retired General Martin Luther Akwe, stated this after a three day planning strategic program of the agency held at Le Meridian Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort.
He explained that already 95% of the road from Warri to Port Harcourt has been completed while the Port Harcourt/Oron/Eket axis has reached 64% completion.
The performance by the contractors handling the road is occasioned by the intervention of SURE-P which has released funds for the project outside the ministerial funding.
The Chairman of the SURE-P who took time to explain the operations of the agency said that the agency has tried to operate within its budget allocation of N180 billion each in 2013 and 2014 fiscal year.
He said that SURE-P also expects to be allocated N180 billion for this year saying that the three day retreat of the management committee was to enable them evaluate the performance of the agency so far and plan ahead.
The Former Chief of Defense Staff who was flanked by the hierarchy of SURE-P said that the committee was grateful to the government of Akwa Ibom State for creating an enabling environment for them to brain storm on the programs of the agency.
