The Special Adviser to Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio, on Food Sufficiency, Prince Uwem Ita Etuk has been named the Political Leader of Uyp Federal Constituency.
Prince Uwem Ita emerged leader in a crucial meeting attended by political office holders and stakeholders from the Federal Constituency made up of the four local Goverment Areas of Uyo, Ibesikpo Asutan, Uruan and Nsit Atai.
The meeting which was held in Uyo was convened to discuss the interest, future and development of the Federal Constituency.
Moving a motion for Prince Uwem Ita Etuk to be elected and declared Political Leader of the Federal Constituency, the Executive Chairman of Nsit Atai, Hon. Mark Esset, stated that the cap fits Prince Uwem Ita to lead the Uyo Federal Constituency, as it has become imperative for the geo political zone to have a voice, unity of purpose and direction in the affairs of the state in particular and Nigeria at large.
The motion was supported by the Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Prince Enobong Uwah and carried unanimously by the assembly.
Speaking, the Commissioner for Transport, Prince Godwin Ntukudeh, who threw his weight behind the election, observed that, Prince Uwem Ita who was a one time Head of Council, and immediate past State Chairman of the PDP has the requisite experience, clout, acceptability and pedigree to assume the exalted position.
He charged the new leader to be fair, firm and do everything in his power to steer the Federal Constituency forward.
In his acceptance speech, Prince Uwem Etuk held that, he cannot shy away from the responsibility that has been thrust upon his frail shoulders but expressed optimism that with God, he would offer good leadership to the Uyo Federal constituency.
Prince Etuk however gave a condition upon which he accepts the challenge, disclosing that, he will always stand on the truth, defend, uphold and speak the truth and charged all those who elected him to join his train.
The meeting was attended by all Elected Chairmen of the Council areas in the Constituency, including, Otuekong Ekerette Ekpenyong(Uyo), Hon. Tony Akan(Uruan), Hon. Mark Esset(Uruan) and Apostle Ekpe James(Ibesikpo).
Also in attendance were members of the State Executive Council from the area, namely, Prince Godwin Ntukude and Prince Enobong Uwah.
Members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly who also made it to the parley are, Hon. Kufre Etuk, (Uruan State Constituency, as well his Nsit Atai and Ibesikpo Asutan counterparts, Hon. Mrs Sarah Elijah and Hon. Eyakeno Etukudoh.
Other category of leaders who were in attendance include all Special Assistants and Personal Assistants to the Governor, all Chapter Chairmen of PDP, State officers of the ruling PDP, all members and Chairmen of Boards from the zone and Stakeholders from the area.
In a chat with newsmen, the State Organizing Secretary of the Party, Prince Aniekan Uko, described the move as a welcome development and an idea whose time has come.
Hon Uko observed that Uyo Federal Constituency as a pace setter has again set the tone as this was the first ever Political Leader of a Federal Constituency and expressed confidence that, Prince Uwem Ita who he served with as a Councillor representing.
Ibesikpo Ward 1 in the council is a man of integrity who is focused, highly dedicated and uncompromising with principles he believes in, noting that he was the right man for the job.
The assembly called on all constituents to not only rally round the new leader but to continue to support the state governor, Chief Dr Godswill Akpabio who they say has been very good to the Federal Constituency with countless projects and appointments for the zone.
